Great Things Happening At The Vance Unit!

Lowes Grant

The Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central North Carolina are thrilled to have received the Lowe’s Renovation Across the Nation grant at our Vance County Club. With the Generous funding provided, along with the help of some wonderful volunteers from the our Local Lowe’s store in Henderson, we will be completing a number of projects in our Club. Projects include: New front doors, AC units, freshly painted games room and education room, new carpeting, window treatments, mulch four our playground and soundproofing for a new music studio. Many thanks to Lowe’s and our local volunteer for making these renovations possible!

Smart Girls Outdoors

Triangle North Health Care Foundation funded an amazing opportunity for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls to participate in Smart Girls Outdoors. This program lead by Club staff and volunteers provided the young ladies the opportunity to experience the outdoors in a way that they had never dreamed. The participants experienced North Carolina's beautiful landscape while camping, hiking, becoming one with nature and learning about themselves. The ladies started the adventures by doubting themselves and questioning their limits. By the end of the program as the ladies were standing enjoying the view from Hanging Rock State Park they realized that there weren't any limits and that North Carolina had more to offer than they ever imagined.

Graduating Seniors

Clark Street Boys & Girls Club currently has 3 graduating seniors. Areyahna Wimbush, Adela Martinez and Robert Susewell. Wimbush and Susewell are both students of Vance County High School while Martinez is a student at Henderson Collegiate. Areyahna, a member of the Club for 8 years, has narrowed her college choices to VGCC, UNC Pembroke, ECSU and NC A&T State University. With career goals of becoming a Salon Owner and Operator, she plans on majoring in business then working on her cosmetology license.  Robert, a member of the Club for 2 years, has narrowed his college choices down to NYU, ECU, UNC, and Georgia State University. With plans on majoring in Biochemistry, Robert has set his eyes on becoming a Cardiac Surgeon.  Adela, a member of the Club for 8 years, has narrowed her college choices to UNC at Chapel Hill, Howard and UNC-G. With plans on majoring in Biology while on the Pre-med track, Adela has hopes of becoming a Pediatric Surgeon.  We wish these young people nothing but the best and encourage them to continue reaching for the stars.
